Biography

Maher Dawood is a Palestinian writer and critic with a master’s degree in literature and criticism. His writing is concerned with theatre, narrative, and cultural criticism, with a particular interest in questions of Palestinian novelistic discourse and representations of the human being in literature. He has contributed to youth cultural initiatives and events in Gaza, written on theatre and cultural affairs, and published research and critical contributions on Palestinian cultural platforms. In his doctoral studies, he focuses on the topic of “Humanising Palestinian Novelistic Discourse,” in an attempt to approach representations of the human being, fragility, and existence within Palestinian narrative.

“I am a human being. I do not need to be defined by those who hold power and authority within a dominant narrative that differs from what I am. I am simpler than all their definitions. I love the sea and the sun; I love human beings, language, and connection. All people walk along the line of love — so let us make for ourselves a coherent line that we all hold onto, far from all classifications, upon the Trace of The Tide.”
